The Irish folk tune "Ballyhoura Mountains" is based on a pentatonic scale. Students are asked to analyze the song themselves listing the tone material as a scale. The easy arrangement of the song can be played on mallets or other melody and keyboard instruments. Finally students can improvise with the pentatonic tone material in certain bars (Takten) which are left blank in the score.
